Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct For March 2025?

This was a bad presentation, but hey maybe it's just to make the Switch 2 Direct look even better by comparison!

I thought the whole purpose behind the Direct was to fill out the rest of the year with Switch titles, but we didn't get a single release date, and the 2 newly announced games were for 2026.

I'm surprised we didn't get a Professor Layton update.

I wasn’t expecting a great one considering all circumstances. Though Tomodachi Life was not on my bingo card

I was genuinely preparing for Miyamoto to announce a Nintendo Direct DVD box set.

That was good but I went in with pretty low expectations, Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life are perfect late-Switch titles, I'm very excited for those two!

Pretty poor. Prime 4 was by far the best thing about it, and the trailer was weirdly low energy, it actually made me less excited for the game (still buying day one, just thought it was a weird showcase). I have zero interest in Pokémon Legends or Tomodachi Life (which announcing more than a year in advance is crazy). Combined with a couple of press announcements of digital games and an app. I hope this is just them getting lots of third party contracts out of the way before the big Switch 2 direct

No release dates, but I can understand

Nintendo was mostly aiming at the younger and casual crowds with this Direct. That makes sense, as it's those groups that are likely to hold on to Switch 1 for longer before upgrading.

I mean, we are in the latter days of the Switch, so I wasn't expecting anything huge. RPG fans should be pretty happy. Metroid should really have a date by now! I was actually most excited for the werid Pac-Man game and the Gradius collection.

7/10, no kirby after all the rumours is sad, but it swhat i expected before the switch 2 direct. i think we got some highly begged for games that were surprises, and even without firm release dates still good to see them. plus it was fun watching it on here, as usual 😸

Only got excited for Metroid Prime 4 and the Gradius collection though pretty sure a collection already exists on switch. The rest was lame. Bring on switch 2!

4/10. Only new thing that interested me is the Punisher 2, and no release dates for the already-announced games.

The only reason I'm even giving it points at all is for Prime 4 and DQ1+2 but those didn't get dates. Don't really care for
Rhythm Heaven or Tomodachi Life 2.

This was the epitome of an “I’m happy for you” direct. Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven fans have been waiting a good while without a new game, so I’m glad they got what they wanted. Not much of a Metroid Prime guy either, but the trailer looked so good I might have to jump on it. Pokémon Legends continues to look good and I had nostalgia pumped directly in my veins with some of those remixes, and I might pick up that Marvel beat em up.
Otherwise… at least we have another one next week!

Overall, I'd rate it as average. MP4 and DQI&II were really all that interested me. It's still nice to see OG support though.

It was poor overall, but what did we expect? We all have our wishes and expectations, but this was clearly just a warm up for THE Direct for their new system less than a week away. I had my expectations lowered and that was for the best. I still got a few things out of this.

I rated a 7. Not too bad in my book! Especially with Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven. I’m also excited to check out Patapon.

I was expecting at least a release date for prime 4

Wasn't expecting much from this so I can't say I was disappointed - a few decent announcements (Rhythm Heaven, Tomodachi) and less remakes than I was expecting/dreading. Solid, if a bit unremarkable.

I thought it was pretty great! Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven are awesome suprises, Metroid Prime 4 trailer is pretty neat, I think those alone bump it up to like, at least a 7 right?

Patapon collection (and hot shots golf) is also really cool, super neat seeing Sony franchises on Nintendo Switch!

I gave it a 7 because it was honestly better than I expected. Nothing much for me but it was cool to see Witchbrook back from the dead.

Gave this one a 5. It was average.

Tomodachi Life was the best surprise. But this was otherwise an incredibly mediocre Nintendo Direct. No big surprises and most of the games on display were either already announced, or not wishlist material for me.

The amount of rhythm games was pretty high, too. And I care very little for those.

It was fine. Several new announcements and release dates for this year. I don't see much reason to be disappointed about a Direct when there's another one next week, particularly when we weren't expecting this one at all. However, it's starting to look over for Prime 2 and 3 remastered, same for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

For a Direct that aired 6 days before the huge Switch 2 Direct I'd say it was alright

Virtual Game Card is huge for those of us with kids and multiple Switches, but the game announcements were weak.

Between the new Everybody Golf game, the Metroid Prime 4 footage, the digital game card thing, and the Nintendo Today phone app, I got a good mix of pleasant surprises! I give it a solid 9.

Still no Twilight Princess or Wind Waker, but watchagonnado, I guess.

Some good stuff there, but overall, most of the stuff was Partner Showcase tier. I didn't expect the world or anything given that Switch 2 is happening next week, but the stuff that was shown off just left so little impression on me.

Absolutely hot garbage. It's clear Nintendo is just scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Sure, Metroid Prime 4 was there, but I find the new trailer quite underwhelming. They better bring their A-game next week.

Only Tomodachi actually sparked my interest (not a huge metroid person sadly)
The new app sounded interesting but imo its really bland so far (Where are the promised comics!)

Considering what is to come in less than a week, it was a good direct.
If this was a regular direct with nothing expected in the horizon then it would be abit mediocre.
Still though. This direct certainly pleased alot of fans of semi-niche franchises!
Personally I'm glad that my favorite SaGa game (SaGa Frontier 2) finally gets a remaster! Also happy about the first of two SMT Devil Summoner Raidou games from the PS2 era getting a modern remaster!

2/10. Patapon 1+2 Replay, Raidō REMASTERED, Rhythm Heaven, and Tomodachi were my highlights.
No FGs and horror games again... Sigh

They really could have announced Metroid Prime 2 Remastered after that 4 showcase and that would’ve been an easy crowd pleaser… maybe they really are holding it back for GameCube Online. The speculation continues.

I just found it to be uneven. For me, The Metroid Prime 4 footage was worth it alone, love seeing more and this direction. I also am so happy to see returns of not one but TWO lost odd ducks in Rhythm Heaven and Tomodatchi.

It was fine. They showed me some games I've been wanting like Rythm Heaven so I'm not too bothered about it. Next week is when the gloves come off anyway so there's no point in me getting upset.

Nothing really for me outside of the Virtual Game Card which is a big deal for my house. But still it was solid overall. I'll get down for a Direct any time, nothing matches the excitement they pack into these. My kid will be super stoked for a new Tomodachi Life. I might pick up Prime 4 but also I loved the first, checked out of the second halfway through and only played the intro of the third.

Unfortunately some of the games weren’t too exciting for me, but I definitely hope that everyone else enjoys them. The highlights for me was Tomodachi Life (pretty shocked that it’s coming back) and Rhythm Heaven Groove, since I absolutely enjoy rhythm games, though I am a tad bit disappointed both of those aren’t releasing till next year, so we’re going to have to wait a while till we hear more on those. Also, I’m surprised they showed off Metroid Prime 4 but still didn’t announce a release date.

Fine Direct but not too stunning in my opinion, though the Switch 2 Direct next week should be super exciting and will likely blow this one out of the water.

Probably the weirdest Direct ever? I expected to see a few games to fill out the year, but instead we got lackluster updates for what we already know about. Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven were great to see but they're both releasing in 2026.

Prime 4 was the biggest game of the presentation, but its trailer was pretty dull. Some niche surprises in there, but little did me personally.

There were a couple of things that interested me, but it was pretty underwhelming. This came off more as an appetizer to the actual even.

Yeah, this was the best time for these announcements, just before the S2 showcase, otherwise very few people would still be paying attention, this late in the S1 lifecycle. The MP4 trailer was nice, but no release date was disappointing.

10/10. Patapon, Everybody's Golf, SaGa Frontier 2, Rhythm Heaven, Tomodachi Life; pump it straight into my veins

I was already only interested in Metroid Prime 4 so I had no real expectations (disappointed we still don't have a release date), but then they come with Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life (even if they come out in 2026). Virtual Game Cards and Nintendo Today! got my attention as well.

I'm gonna say 5/10, but that's only because we already knew the real deal was the Switch 2 Direct.
Surprised nobody has been like "GrRrRr RhYtHm HeAvEn AnD tOmOdAcHi LiFe ShOuLd'Ve BeEn SwItCh 2 gAmEs" yet.

I'm sure if I had any interest in Everybody's Golf, Patapon, that ATLUS game or that not-Pac-Man game, it'd go to a 7/10, maybe 8/10 even.

EDIT: Rewatching the Patapon segment, it does look like it is right up my alley. So I take it back, this was a 7/10 Direct for me.

There wasn't a ton I'm excited for but I wasn't bored while watching it either.

Witchbrook seemed like a neat game.

Metroid Prime 4 looks good but I do feel like I need to see more of it before I'm satisfied.

Pokemon Z-A seems a lot more interesting to me now that the day and night cycle mechanics have been explained.

I'll keep my end on Raidou Remastered but it'll probably be awhile after release before I play it.

Virtual Game Cards at least seems like a slight improvement on the current system with digital games on multiple Switch systems.

Nintendo News Today sounds cool in theory. Hopefully it's properly supported. They should really consider a website version too.

Really do wish they could have done this last week so XCXDE could have been given some brief Nintendo Direct exposure.

No Zelda Wii U HD ports or Prime 2 & 3 ports are a shame but I guess I was expecting too much.

It's basically an appetizer for the main event next week and it is late in the night. Started strong but fizzled a bit. Not bad given the context. Personally would have liked the remaining 2D Castlevanias in some form (got Gradius instead, meh) and the other Metroid Prime remasters that we all seem to assume are coming. Not bad given the timing, but nowhere near a great Direct

Gets a 1 instead of 0 from me because of Metroid Prime 4.
But even that didn't get a release date.
Neither did Pokemon ZA, a game which might turn out to be decent, but I doubt it.

Professor Layton has been beaten to death, along with the Switch.

Honestly not bad. The reveal of tomodachi life and rhythm heaven were definitely highlights.

It was pretty awful and it's like sure the big stuff is for the switch 2 direct but they still decided to go thru with this presentation anyway lol. The only 2 highlights for me were the raidou and saga remasters but they're multiplat anyway so yea

Honestly I expected just a few remasters and ports of arcade games and RPGs. The fact we got Metroid and new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodatchi Life games announced was awesome! Plus I never though I’d ever see Patapon outside a Sony system!

I don’t know what people were expecting. But anything more than what we got given next week the new console is getting a Direct feels like an unreasonable ask.

More of a Nintendo Passive Aggressive than a Nintendo Direct.

I love the franchises and games here, but I love the hive mindset, so 4/10.

Not really much of anything new, but to be fair, I would hope the heavy hitters would be shown at the Switch 2 Direct. Regardless though I am thrilled about Rhythm Heaven.

Now I just wait for a brand new F-Zero on Switch 2.

More power to the people excited for Tomodochi Life, but I thought this was hands down the worst Direct… maybe ever? The only “new” games I’m interested in are Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots and the Marvel arcade game… both of which are multi-platform lol.

I hope all the good stuff is coming next week cause this did nothing for me outside of seeing more pretty visuals for Metroid Prime 4.

I'm more than happy with the new Tomodachi Life, even if announced so early.

I love Nintendo but this could have been an email. MP4 looking great but no release date, the lending thing was a bit confusing, the app seems totally unnecessary, quite lackluster games presentation, and this whole Direct being just one week before the big Switch 2 Direct was such a bizarre move, but very Nintendo.

@Truegamer79 There is no Gradius arcade collection on Switch, however Gradius/Nemesis & Salamander/Life Force was included in the Konami Arcade Classics collection.

I think we need context here. This is the deep winter of the amazing conosle that is the Switch 1. The Direct wasn't going to pull up any trees. Tamodachi Life 2, Rhythm Heaven Switch, Metroid Prime 4 had me thinking we should have had these games earlier in the Switch's life. Insta-buys.

Strange we had no Layton update (I suspect it gets moved to NS2) & no date for DQ 1&2 Remakes. Also the 2026 release date was interesting. Is the NS1 expected to co-exist with NS2 comfortably? I suppose it doesn't matter with NS2 being backwards compatible.

A few other very interesting games that I'll definitely look into (Gradius Collection with S3!, Monument Valley Trilogy, Raidou Remastered, Marvel Cosmic Invasion).

Pokemon Z of course is a insta-buy.

Contextually a 6-7/10 direct IMO.

I just didn't like today's Direct. It had some moments but if it wasn't for Metroid Prime 4 and a handful of Nintendo's back catalog franchises, it might as well could have been a partner direct. Too heavy on 3rd party mid-tier games. But it's ok, stuff needs to clear out for next week's showcase.

I'd give it a 6. It was really nice seeing more Prime 4 and Legends Z-A with some of the other announcements also interesting but definitely a weaker Direct.

What this does confirm though is that the Switch 2 Direct is going to be packed with software and it's releasing sooner rather than later.

Don't get me wrong the MP4 update trailer was nice but I really didn't see anything that says "this is your last sunset Switch 1." That Pacman Metroidvania looked cool, that old man with a cane (duck tales) and might try Marvel game BUT all those games are later in the year. Switch 2 more than likely is going to be out. Again MP4 saved the show for me.

tbh starting off with 3 anime games was enough to tell me to hold off expectations of 1st party announcements from the start. RH and tomodachi life were my highlights like a lot of people but im fully aware those are lower pirority games BELOVED by core fans but arent system sellers. im just said the only games i was interested in are next year titles

Okay to good for what I could pull from it, and a bit extra kudos because nobody was expecting it before yesterday - but there were also open goals that went begging, and still the big guns that would have made it an absolute Park-Knocker-Outer remained silent. (And only on MLB Opening Day too.)

• Gradius Origins - already got most of it in other packages, and Salamander III is interesting - but you're never telling me they couldn't have squeezed Gradius IV in there an'all. Also noticed the glaring slowdown is still present - a shocking oversight this far down the line, especially when I've seen SNES romhacks that get round it - and still no Parodius? Does Konami want us to emulate it or something?
• Monument Valley 3 - I'll likely get it, but it's not going to be an essential Day One job. Probably blast through it anyway
• Lou's Lagoon - not exactly hosed down with info on this one, but it might be worth a glance. Luzz a demo up and we'll see
• Nintendo Today[!] - of course we'll get it, maybe they'll add a widget we can plonk in our stacks and homescreens to give our phones a bit colour without having to go looking for it, but let's be honest: we're all still coming to NL for the unvarnished opinions, aren't we. Plus, coming back from a crappy day at work dealing with various a-holes, bellends and self-entitled expletives, it is nice being told we're still lovely peeeeeeeeople

@Citano Just curious, because I haven’t played it, what makes SaGa Frontier 2 your favorite? I loved the Gameboy Final Fantasy Legend games, and grew to like SaGa Frontier 1 over time (I hated it back when it originally released because I expected Final Fantasy 7 levels of presentation)

To me SaGa Frontier 2 looks completely underwhelming; a strange hodgepodge of bland Final Fantasy Tactics art direction and Visions of Mana. Where is all the awesome style from SaGaF 1?

I thought it was pretty grim. All I really wanted was a Metroid Prime 4 date and they didnt even share that (maybe its the first bit of news for their new app...). The digital game sharing was interesting, but it didnt need a Direct. The rest was very 'meh'.
Felt like a lot of resissues/remakes other than MP4.

A very Japan focused direct, which means I am buying most of the new games.

A lot of franchises I love are either coming back or getting remasters, entries into one of my favorite genres, plus all the games still on the docket. This pretty much cements that unless i get a crazy windfall i will be skipping the switch 2 launch. My wishlist is too long.

Expected Super Soccer 2025, got Tamadotchi Life.

MP4 looks superb, as expected. But the highlight for me was Gradius Origins M2 ShotTriggers with Salamander 3. I didn't notice it was by M2 until I watched it back and was a little underwhelmed at the collection as I have most of these on the Arcade Collection. But seeing a brand new Salamander then realising it's by M2 and part of the ShotTriggers series, with all the bells and whistles, makes this one my most anticipated games.

Not that much extra in the Japanese Direct - I'm seeing...

Outstanding. I didn't expect to see Metroid Prime 4 until next week, and Marvel: Cosmic Invasion really made it for me.

Taking into consideration how long we've been waiting for this type of direct and the fact that this is the end of Switch 1, I think this was extremely poor. They should've at least had remasters of Zelda or something. Metroid Prime 4 looks great, but the presentation wasn't anywhere impressive even for Switch 1.

this is a situation where timing is so important. This would have gone down way better 3-4 weeks ago. Now, a week before the big Switch 2 drop, this thing hit with a thud. Metroid Prime 4 gameplay and a Rhythm Heaven announcement would have been hype machines a month ago. Now, I can't seem to care.

I have to wonder why I'm not more impressed by Metroid 4. It checks all the boxes but...dude...its been like 6 years. I think I'm over it.

I gave it an outstanding just because they listened and gave us Switch owners with families and digital libraries a super nice way to game share without having to mess with Primary and Secondary account nonsense.

One step further would be full transfer of license to a family member for a title you’re no longer playing. They’ve now become the closest to Steam in regards to digital rights sharing. Bravo Nintendo! Bravo!

It was great. Just getting updates on Prime 4 and ZA alone made it worthwhile but the fact we also got 2 thought to be “dead” series’ brought back made me so happy

5/10 - A few things made me very happy. Raidou Remastered, Saga Frontier 2, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Everything else was not for me.

1 week before the launch phase of the Switch 2. What did some people expect? Take the positives. They evidently are not dropping support for the Switch anytime soon. Ok direct and as expected.

Overall, it was a good direct. There are some surpises defintely, such as Patapon and Everybody's golf, which are Sony IPs that are once again being ported to a Nintendo system

Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar got me hyped even though I've never played the OG DS game.

Overall, a decent direct. Nothing too crazy but there are some banger announcements. Still a good direct for the last Switch focused direct

It's like going to see your favourite band (Switch 2 direct) and having to tolerate a terrible support act (Switch 1 direct). The advantage for the main act is that it makes them evern more amazing...usually.

really underwhelming. Didn't hate it, but the best I can say is a few things I was like "oh neat". Dragon Quest, Patapon is pretty cool, Tomadachi was real interesting to see. Not a Metroid fan so that didn't grab me.

Everybodies golf, finally that came to the system. Doesn't look like it's running great though.

8 - I freaking love Metroid. I'm interested in the Marvel beat em up and Dark Pac-man but nada else. Happy for thos that like the rest of the stuff.

I remember the final year of Wii u and Wii. This is going to be 100% better than them. I’m not sure what people expected but all the goodies are going to the switch 2.

It went pretty damn hard. Raidou Kuzunoha, SaGa Frontier 2, more Somnium Files for the god of Somnium Files, the grand returns of Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life, a friggen Pac-Man metroidvania, other highlights like Grand Bazaar and Witchbrook... and hooooooold the heck up, two Patapon games AND a new Everybody's Golf???🙀😻 That does it - starting today, I WILL BE UNIRONICALLY PORTBEGGING FOR GRAVITY RUSH COLLECTION ON SWITCH. The future is now.

Even my lengthy wishlist from last night wasn't left unattended - High on Life is coming, and much sooner than I could expect! The only headscratcher was "virtual game cards" which sound like secondary console sharing with extra steps - but then again, the separate local communication transfer they tout might come in handy for shuffling the amassed (and, as this Direct is my witness, still every bit as growth-prone) Gen 9 backlog around once I procure an NS2.

Really, the latter console could easily wait another year as this one was just reiterated to have its own treasure trove of offerings for the current generation. I barely even have any expectations from next Thursday beyond price and date to start accounting for - there will obviously be no new Xenoblade announcements for the visible future, the likes of FE Genealogy or PXZ3 would have likely showed up today if they were in the immediate pipeline (tactical RPGs are among the last genres to crave much beyond Switch specs) and the rest of Nintendo's routinely anticipated sleeve deck (marios, zeldas, possible star foxes etc) is latest entries in the neck-deep franchise binges I've already made or planned enough compromises in with the likes of BotW, Echoes and Showtime. With most of my third party wishes not relying on next-gen either, unless NS2 launch lineup does justice to "cloud versions" like Kingdom Hearts and RE7, this very "OG" Direct might well end up as the more memorable of the two in my book.😄 We'll know for sure in less than a week, though.

@Flugen I only rated it 9 over deficient personal interest in "virtual game cards" and the somewhat redundant A-Z info in the wake of Pokemon Presents. The rest is a doozy, and if you view it in the 4-5 ballpark by contrast, do you really think many of us "low expectation folks" would be eager to meet someone so easily bored?😜

@Antraxx777 The art style certainly slaps (atleast for the original back on the PS1 era) with the hand-drawn visuals. Music is also good. The narrative in SF2 is amazing and is one of the reasons I enjoy it the most in the series. The whole "steel vs anima" and the political intrigue is great. The downside is that this game can be very hard at times despite the no-need-to-grind SaGa mindset. The generation system can make the last part of the game very brutal if you are not prepared.

95% of that Direct could have easily just been done in a series of tweets or shadow dropped on Youtube. I guess they had to do a Direct to announce the Virtual Game Cards and Nintendo Today app

A not for me Direct. I was a bit pissed that they put metroid on the middle so they raised by hopes just to smash it down in 20 veeeeeery long minutes

There were some weird niche surprises, which is a plus. Metroid Prime 4 looked a bit lacklustre, sadly.

It was very clearly filled with leftovers, with only Metroid being a AAA title (and its inclusion was out of obligation more than anything). I think the point was to say: There will be Switch games through at least 2026, all of which will be playable on Switch 1 or Switch 2.

It wouldn't surprise me, considering the similar architecture between S1 and S2, to see Nintendo continue to support the Switch with small, cheap titles, throughout the life of the Switch 2. AAA games on S2 will cost 70 bucks, but cheap, minor titles can be released on Switch (still playable on S2) for 30-50 bucks.

Meh, it was tolerable, but nothing actually good or new was announced. It could be much better if Nintendo wanted it to be. Almost feels like they are intentionally sabotaging the original Switch in regards to the software announcements ahead of Switch 2 Direct next week, lol.

Not gonna lie for new announcements it was probably the worst direct I've seen for the Switch. Metroid and Pokémon look good and Raidou looks really intriguing but apart from that nothing really wowed me.

So it's a 5/10 from me, you can tell the Switch 2 is right around the corner.

This Direct felt like a parade of cult classics to me. I know a lot of the things in there have their avid fans, but in most cases I am not one of them. I also thought the Prime 4 segment was pretty poorly done. Scanning and puzzle mechanics are not the best showcase materials, and generic things like "psychic abilities" and "chosen one" plotlines don't give a good impression either.

But hey, at least we'll have trainers chasing us down again in Pokemon. I wasn't a fan of the fully opt-in trainer battles in Scarlet/Violet.

It was not that bad so a 6 for me. Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Rhythm Heaven, and Tomodaichi Life were the ones I was interested in most.

It started strong and felt like it had somewhere to go. But after MP4, it wandered, overstayed its welcome, and caused any excitement that might have been building to falter. We should have been grinning ear to ear when Miyamoto popped in, instead it was confusing and just plain random.

I'm excited for next week and Switch 2, but was slightly more excited yesterday before this presentation.

The Rhythm Heaven announcement saved it from the 1 grade.

For me, it was average at best. But I was not surprised. They were winding down on Switch games since they're about turn attention to the Switch 2 next week.

Prime 4 does look awesome, but when are we getting 2+3 remasters?!

I did notice slightly less ‘expressive’ voices, which is a great improvement.

Well today, I learned I've been saying both Balatro and Gradius wrong.

Outside of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, High on Life port, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Nintendo Today...nothing else caught my eye.

It was alright… was expecting a bit more..

Yeah this one was pretty weak other than Metroid Prime 4 which looks great. I gave it 5/10. Without Metroid it would be 3/10 for me. Mostly a lot of cozy life sim type games and lot of ports of very old games. I might pick up Patapon though.

If Nintendo had thrown in Zelda, Metroid and Kirby remasters then everyone would be giving it 8's and 9's.

As it is, I'm still interested in a few of the games shown, but I definitely was expecting a bit more first-party presence.

DQ I+II, Saga Frontier 2, Witchbrook, Pokemon ZA, and MP4 is a solid takeaway for me personally, even if I was hoping for a few more first-party remasters as well. 7/10 for me!

It was an 8 for me. The Shin Mehami Tensei looks very good, new Metroid Prime 4 Trailer although it was a bit low energy, new Marvel beat'em up made by Dotemu, Patapon and Tomodachi Life sequel.

After watchng this latest trailer I could not help but think Nintendo shold have delayed this for the Switch 2. When you get past the fact this is pretty good for eight year old hardware, you are still left with visuals that do not do justice to this latest installment of the Metroid series. In fact I can't see all that much diferencence in this compared to the recent Metroid remaster. Hopefully we will see more to convince me otherwise. And I am hoping for a patch so this looks better on the Switch 2........But you are still going to be held back by this being released for the older hardware.

Woooow I'm really surprised how low people are viewing this. Like, you do realize we're getting a Switch 2 direct in less than a week right? I thought expectations were low but I guess everyone's disappointed their [insert favorite game franchise] didn't show up.

It's the end of its life people — it's only gonna be small potatoes from here on out.

Under normal circumstances it would be pretty bad, but with the context of the switch 2 direct literally next week it makes sense.

This was a hard one. Not many games for me personally. It's clear that Nintendo is going to position the Switch/Lite as a cozy games/general audiences device with 90% of their AAA and AA output focused on the Switch2. A great strategy TBH, at least until the Switch2 Lite with a new Animal Crossing drops. It was awesome to see new gameplay of MP4 (energy shot bending!) and the reveal of Tribute working on a Marvel beat-em-up had me giddy. My kids have been wanting a new Tamogatchi Life, so that will make them happy. Also, being able to share digitally purchased games easier within our household will definitely alleviate some issues. Was sad we didn't see some new ports for Kirby, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, or Star Fox. Hopefully there will be full-on HD GCN support for the Switch2. Only a little under a week to go!

Exactly my take-away.

Decent enough for a direct that I had low expectations for because of course they're saving the big stuff for switch 2. I'm excited for marvel cosmic Invasion love the art style and I love marvel. And the pokemon trailer got me more interested in that it, as a casual pokemon fan who doesn't play all the games I think this will be one I pick up

I was worried about the Switch 2 Direct before watching today's Direct, but ironically I have readjusted my expectations a second time after watching it! Now I'm expecting all the bangers to be featured next week.

I wanted a date for Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon ZA, or ports for other Metroid Prime 2 and 3, or F-zero/Star Fox ports(I can dream). Not a fan of Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven. No news for Layton or Sonic racing. Only Hot Shots Golf and Patapon 1+2 for me, plus Super Robot Wars Y from the Japanese direct. 5/10.

I'm happy about the Prime 4 stuff and the new Rhythm Heaven, but it was otherwise pretty underwhelming for me. I was really hoping for some remasters of Prime 2 and 3. The whole thing was maybe a 5/10 for me. Here's hoping they've been saving all of the bombshells for the Switch 2 Direct next week.

Raidou and Metroid automatically make this above average for me. 9/10 for those two alone.

Also scoffing at anyone who genuinely thought Silksong would be there. Xbox has a marketing deal with TC, so the earliest we see that game again would be in Xbox's June presentation. Pretty sure Phil even teased it.

It was interesting to see more Sony games come to switch. But overall, it was poor. I thought maybe there’d be another port or remake of Nintendo’s first party games

Yeah that's the one i was thinking of. I don't think it had Gradius 3 but it did have the first Salamander.

One of the worst Directs ever for me. I was waiting to order Windwaker and Twilight Prinicess tonight again but no announcement. And I wanted all major Zelda titles to be on the same console. Or the first Luigi's Mansion. I wanted a Forza Horizon 5 port too. Maybe on Switch 2 but I i was hoping they would be on 1 as well because I haven't decided when I'll get 2 if it doesn't have OLED screen at release.
The only game I found a little bit interesting is Story Of Seasons. 1/10 for me. Because I don't like Metroid games.

I was not expecting a lot, but certainly not this little, if anything at all. Virtual game cards was the only thing that got me excited. Pretty meh Direct.

There was not much for me but that was an objectively good direct. It’s crazy to me how incapable of thinking outside of their own preferences some people are.

This was a really good direct. New Somnium Files is a highlight for me, then Raidou remaster, Metroid, Pokemon, and Dragon Quest.

Direct was great if you were a Metroid, Tomodachi, Rhythm Heaven or Digital Game Card fan but if you're everyone else, the direct was boring. Not enough content to make you look forward to this year or next year. Wasn't expecting much anyway since Switch 2 Direct is next week so maybe Nintendo played it safe this time.

Anyway 4/10 Direct, wasn't really much of a Direct to be honest.

I thought it was a really strong direct overall.

Excited for the announcement of a new AI Somnium game along with a release date for Witchbrook, that one has been a long time coming. I also think the Shin Megami Tensei game looks cool.

Also how could I forget we're getting a new Tomodachi Life game too.

I'm not super interested in Metroid Prime 4 or Rhythm Heaven but it's really cool we got gameplay footage of the former and an announcement of a new game for the latter.

Totally no use to me for my gaming preferences apart from MP4 of course.

Really hope in house AAA games from Nintendo get release dates for Switch 2 and they really are big bangers and in console release day.

Else for the first time in my Nintendo History I might not order a Switch 2 for release day.

@RBRTMNZ Yup, people were expecting Zelda and Mario in a Direct that's not even the main one. Nintendo fans are notorious for having unreasonable expectations. The fact that we got an MP4 trailer should be having people over the moon, because I wasn't even fully expecting that much from a Direct this close to the Switch 2 unveiling.

Excellent! The virtual game card is a brilliant solution. It looked like the very last part of the Metroid clip was rendered on switch 2. The Pokemon looks perfect. Everything else is just icing as we see what stuff pops up next week. Any switch 2 exclusives wouldnt be today anyway

I can't say i wasn't disappointed. I was hoping for something Fire Emblem (but the fact that Rhythm Heaven isn't coming out until 2026 says to me that Intelligent Systems has probably already been hard at work making the next entry for Switch 2). Other than really HOPING for one or two really cool remasters, I EXPECTED a Prime 4 release date. To me, the fact that we didn't get one all but confirms that it is going to be a cross-platform launch title for Switch 2. They didn't want to put a date on MP4 because that will be the release date of the Switch 2 as well.

But hey, it started out well. I loved the first two Sominum games.I hope this new one will bring the same quirky sense of humor.

@johnvboy Genuinely, what is wrong with people who think like this? It looks amazing for a Switch game. It's got PS4 level graphics and it runs at a steady 60. Name one other game on Switch that looks this good and runs this well. Why is Metroid of all games being targeted for graphics when exactly none of the other games in the presentation look even half as good, let alone anything else in the entire Switch library?

You people should really reassess your life if you think MP4 looks graphically bad. It's a laughably bad take and I'm frankly tired of seeing it. If you want to call out bad graphics, Game Freak is right there.

People are crazy. I mean, you people are crazy. If this direct was "too good", then the Switch 2 would seem pointless. For a console on its way out, I think this highlighted that hey, there are at least 4 first party games coming to the Switch 1 that aren't just overly expensive remasters. Compared to the sendoff to the 3ds, which I think did stink (as a sendoff, not the system as I think it's my favorite system ever), it was a good direct.
Again, you people are crazy and impossible to please. I have been a bit negative on Nintendo throughout the entire Switch generation, as I just don't think their lineup is as creative as it was when they needed to support two unique systems. But... this is a solid sendoff to the system that killed the era of two interesting systems during a generation. Now I am rambling, and I don't care.

Besides MP4 (which we already knew about, and which we inexplicably didn't get a release date for), there was not another single game that even remotely interested me.

I was just expecting a bunch of $60 dollar remasters, back to back to back to back, until the screen faded to black. I think for some reason most would have preferred that, which just blows my mind. Plus, I must admit that Rhythm Heaven is always a welcome way to end any console generation. They did it with the Wii, the 3ds, and I think its proper to the same with the Switch. What a fun game series from what seems to be a mostly bygone era for Nintendo.

@PinderSchloss I ALWAYS thought it was A.I. too and have always called it that. I'd never heard the name pronounced by anyone else. My mind was blown when they called it "ai" as in "eye". It made so much sense, and I should have realized it since the character's name is "Aiba" and is an EYE!

Nice to see the Switch is getting new games, none of which I really want to play.

Any Direct with Metroid in gets 10/10 by default. No arguing. This is just how it is.

I was hoping we'd atleast hear about the alleged remasters for Kirby Planet Robo Bot and Fire Emblem 4 remake would be here. But all in all some of the 3rd party stuff looked cool. The new Labyrinth game and Dragon Quest. Also Golf Journeys. Its cool for fans of Rythym Heaven and Tomodachi Life get new entry's. But I think this should've been a partner showcase. Metroid, Pokemon, Rhythm heaven, and Tomodachi Life could've had there own stuff.

There could have been a few missing n64 titles announced at the very least 🤔

@Truegamer79 Yeah, Gradius and Salamander only. Salamander is sometimes called Life Force, but in this new collection, Life Force is the Japan only version with altered graphics. Still, I like these games - it'll be nice to have arcade versions and Salamander III too. The could have included more though.

I wasn't expecting a Switch Direct at this point, much less new game announcements for the Switch, so the Direct definitely exceeded my expectations and thus, I rate it high.

Each direct is going to be "good" or "bad" to different people, dependent on how much of it is advertising something they wanted to see. If we're being honest.

The fact that Pokemon is finally appearing in these again after 6 years plus being able to give games to friends and family makes this another winner.

Otherwise it was really weak, like 4/10. Tomodachi Life I've never played, I guess I may like it, but a bummer it's a 2026 release. The wizardring school sim looked nice, too.

Oh, and Metroid Prime trailer looked WAY too good for this to be Switch 1 footage. Weird.

When they showcased Metroid halfway through, I thought for sure something even bigger was coming. I won't say I was disappointed, but I got myself too hyped as always. Maybe the release dates for Metroid and Pokemon were held off on because they're going to get Switch 2 releases as well, and Nintendo didn't want to hint at the release date of Switch 2? Just a theory.

@Truegamer79 Oh yeah - definitely. I didn't even know there was an arcade version for the longest time. I alwasy considered it "Gradius 2" though it really isn't I am a big fan of the series in general.

Very poor. What need did it meet? None of these games interest me. Not many of these games are very high profile. Many came without release dates, so why bother. I was hoping for a lot more. I know Switch 2 is coming but there is no way I’m getting one until a year or three after release. Nintendo could still support the 100’s of millions of Switch owners with some Kirby, Zelda Oracle, Minish remakes, Fire Emblem, even Luigi’s Mansion 1.

I always thought life force was way cooler than regular gradius. You're basically flying around inside the body of a huge snake and the bosses are nightmare fuel! Can't wait to try Salamander 3! I'm not the best at shooters but i still never get tired of them.

And I won’t be spending any of my phone’s memory installing another dubious app. If I want Nintendo news, I’ll keep relying on NL with a dash of the Switch news boards.

Games are very subjective.
Just because the majority of the games you have zero interest with them, it doesn't mean the worst for everybody.
I found some cute cozy games announced such as story of seasons, tamagotchi plaza, Tomodachi life, etc.
The games that definitely not for you it might be the games for other peoples.

@GoldenSunRM It's because TikTok has ruined marketing, training millions of people to expect a blitzkrieg of millisecond clips thrown at viewers in rapid fire. In contrast, a big part of MP4's presentation was handled like an actual gameplay showcase, like the E3 presentations of old.

Well that was underwhelming, but oh well.

Biggest takeaway is that Switch 2 is definitely launching before the end of June, or else they'd have zero 1st party releases for an ENTIRE financial quarter. That would not go over well with their shareholders at all, let alone with the fans

3/10 for me. The big games in the showcase such as Pokémon and Metroid we already knew about and the rest were pretty lack lustre and would only appeal to a niche audience. How was the big final reveal tomodatchi life lol how embarrassing. Still no windwaker/TP. Unless the switch 2 has an amazing lineup of games at launch clearly no rush to go and get one.

For a last hurrah for the Switch, personally I think it wasn't all too bad. Not too much for me personally, but I got more info on Metroid Prime 4 and a new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life. I don't feel like I can complain here.
Other than those, I don't think there really was much for me.

Witchbrook looked cute but I don't know if I'd really invest time into that. I may try it if I get the chance.

Rift of the Necrodancer looked cool and the Celeste stuff there nearly sold me but I'm not sold entirely just yet.

Monument Valley may be nice, reminded me of Captain Toad kind of. But not quite sold.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion looks cool, I don't have much with superheroes though. Again, not quite sold. But interested.

All in all it's really only Metroid, Tomodachi and Rhythm Heaven that sold me, and I'm certainly happy with it, as I went into this expecting like, nothing really for me. I guess you could say I'm disappointed by the lack of a Yoshi's Woolly World port, but eh, I have the Wii U and 3DS versions still if I really wanna play that! Not a big deal.

I loved this Direct! But I’m also a huge Tomodachi Life fan. I was beginning to think a sequel would never happen. Literally threw my arms up and quietly screamed when I saw the news at work lol

The lack of release dates is a bummer, for sure. But I’m also A-OK with some of the heavy hitters not coming out until 2026–that just confirms that the Switch 1 will be supported into the foreseeable future, which I think is good for everyone.

If 100 movie critics give a movie an 3/10 and 5 critics give it a 8/10, the general consensus is that it’s a bad movie.

It was a six until the end. Tomodachi Life makes it a 10. Even if I will be playing it in 2026 on my Switch 2.

@Tempestryke neither am i! But! Prime is one of my favorite games ever made. If you haven't ever given it a go, I still recommend. While there is combat, a lot of it is really about discovery and exploration, and in a way the enemies are almost like puzzles.

So Metroid Prime 4 has the same basic game mechanics as any of the Crash Bandicoot games - WTF?!?

Pretty middle-of-the-road for me to be honest. Most of the games I'm genuinely interested in (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the Dragon Quest remakes) still have no solid release date...though maybe after next week? The Metroidvania Shadow Labyrinth still has my interest from its odd TGA reveal, and the new AI: The Somnium Files game may be a future purchase if I ever play and like the backlogged original (and its sequel).

I think there is something wrong with you if you get so upset over someone elses opinion. If you love it what does it matter what anyone else thinks. And if you genuinely feel this has PS4 level graphics then I am off to get you some glasses and a straight jacket.

Presonally I feel this game has been in development hell for years. And they got to a point where they could not hold off showing it anymore. Yes it looks pretty decent for the original Switch. But does it grap the attention..... no

Like I said I am hoping for the Switch 2 version to knock this out of the park. And I do remember the initial trailer looking a little better than this. Fingers and toes crossed for next tuesday.

Pretty bad. Only one exciting new announcement in my opinion (New Tomodachi Life!!) and the updates on Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends Z-A were barely even updates at all. The lack of Prime 2/3 remasters also felt like salt in the wound.

But on the bright side, the Switch 2 Direct is happening in less than a week and will HOPEFULLY be a lot better!!

At this stage, it was more than most people expected.

It was good to see more of Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and the Pac Man game. There were a few games that I'd get when they're on sale such as the new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life games.

The restrictions on digital games sharing disguised as a fun new feature was a pretty big turn off for me, and I don't have much interest in the Nintendo Today app as I already go to other sites to get info on new games and movies etc.

Overall I don't think it was worth staying up to 1:30am for.

@BranJ0 Agree. The energy did seem off. And speaking as a demonstrable fan boy, I thought the graphics looked pretty tired across the board. Not bad! But yeah, creaking somewhat. That said, day one non-the-less.

It wasn't bad, but it got four minus points for me because of the lack of two Metroid and two Zelda remasters...
Besides that, it's been a solid last hurrah for the Switch 1. Who knows if they could be making more unannounced games for the Switch 1. They're starting to treat it like the 3DS on the early Switch years, mainly focusing on remasters and smaller-scale games.

Normally this is PlayStation territory, but compared to any pre-new console momentum from Nintendo in the past, it's amazing how the previous home console is still getting some quite great games years after the successor's debut, maybe not seen since the SNES to Nintendo 64 transition.

I must be on a totally different wavelength to the majority of people here. I thought it was a solid 8/10 at least. Tomodachi Life, Rhythm Paradise, Everybody's Golf, Patapon, New AI spinoff, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion all looked great to me. Plus some cool indies and more Metroid and Pokémon info.

The polls are bias...

I am still a bit dumbfounded about Rhythm Heaven releasing in 2026. Do they really need to take this long on this game?

No Sleep for Kaname Dante and High on Life made it a 10 for me

My opinion is these are just so cheesy it's hard to watch. It's hard to believe a 90 billion dollar company would make presentations this poor. Feels like these were made in the 1990's. Zero energy. Super goofy.

Other than Metroid the games looked dated, boring and cheap. But I'm also sick of the word "cozy" so I might be the wrong person to ask

The fact that Metroid Prime 4 still got the "coming 2025" release period sapped all excitement following the game presentation. Given that it was always the key game of this Direct, it was bad of Nintendo not to be more specific, so I rate the entire Direct as BAD. Something like "autumn 2025" would suffice, not this indefinite and interminable "coming 2025" nonsense. We're in 2025 now. It's simply unacceptable.

Also, nothing else shown I would call exciting, and other than perhaps the Marvel fighting game, nothing was of personal interest. This simply should have been the big MP4 showcase with a release date. It failed that key task. It couldn't even offer a skerrick of hope. So disappointing.

Nothing surprising, but importantly nothing about anything I was hoping for, like NSO, though I appreciate the digital games cards as a concept, definitely have plenty of games I could lend to friends for a fortnight. Still surprised Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have gone ignored this entire time, they would be no brainers releases for me.

This is the worst Direct I've ever seen.
I think I've been more impressed even by all the indie directs.
Most any game interesting has already been revealed before.

I added the Patapon 1+2 Replay and Gradius Origins to my wishlist. That's it.

In the end I'll probably end up buying a bunch more, but not sold on much anything else that was newly shown.

A lot of "that's pretty cool I'll add it to my list", but nothing that has me in anticipation. I understand why they decided on two directs but I really think the announcements here would've been better received if they were just included in the switch 2 direct.

It wasn't bad. It had the Patapon games (so in the future we can play both the originals and the indie sequel on Switch!), the monument valleys are coming, Rhythm paradise finally getting a new sequel (next year?!), and Metroid (but that was very dissapointing).

The last couple of Directs all had 1 or 2 interesting things in it, while in the past there where Directs that totally failed.

No Amiibo or Alarmo announcements means a poor direct.

I am totally used to the ‘Direct’ to be somewhat underwhelming but what they put together for the ‘Direct’ yesterday if anything for me it was ‘quite excellent’ as the gaming content was great and sets the bar very high for the ‘switch 2’ the stars of the show was obviously’Metroid 4’ and the ‘Nintendo event’ app was an announcement out of nowhere, excellent stuff

7/10 for me, some nice surprises, the best of which for me was Gradius Origins. Hoping they add Gradius Gaiden and the SNES version of Gradius III (and console versions of the other Gradiuses) to the collection before it releases in August.

Honestly, I know im being super negative toward it...but only a few things stuck out to me. Even Prime 4, which im excited about, kind of felt lacking. I also understand that this will be overshadowed by the Switch 2 thing, and it just feels like a swan song for the Switch. Its been a great run thats for sure.

I thought the Nintendo Direct was okay but not really wow.
Games are very subjective and peoples will have different reaction from all the games shown and I have different reaction too.
When a lot of peoples really waiting for Metroid prime 4, I completely have zero interest.
But when some peoples have no interest with Tamagotchi Plaza, Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar, Tomodachi Life, I shown hyped reactions.
After watching the Nintendo Direct, I got some interesting upcoming games to be purchased in the future.
I'm not a gamer who is playing Zelda / Metroid / smash bros / xenoblade so the underrated games like Story of Seasons, Tamagotchi, Tomodachi Life, etc are my biggest hype.

Solid! It feels appropriate for a system that's winding down, but there was still a lot to love, and it was a statement of intent that the Switch still has some life in it yet. Also, Metroid looks sick as!

like they said on gvg.. it was a direct for the weirdo's with tomodachi life and rhyth heaven feaver coming back, and two unexpected but welcome ps-ports..

after seeing the game prices, I want to take back my rating of 10/10. Now it is 6/10.
