I legit almost cried. Path of Radiance finally got a second chance.

They had me at Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo! and the Pokémon RPGs. Savestates should make the Battle Mode of Colosseum somewhat easier or at least more bearable.

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Pokemon Colloseum make this worthwhile alone. PoR is one of my fav games of all time and I played out my Pkmn C to the point the disc stopped working.

@batmanbud2 I didn't cry but damn did it make me joyous being able to replay some of these great classics from my childhood and try others I missed.

Shame it looks like that Zelda remaster stuff was false but if we're getting Wind Waker, then Twilight Princess will be included at some point so regardless, we're getting to play them and in the end, that's what matters. Remasters would just be fresh icing but not really needed since they're still good.

@Lizuka @Kazman2007 imo, the HD version is worse. The visuals were bloated, and there was so much bloom, not to mention that the only meaningful change was the Triforce hunt at the end.

Holding back WW:HD is a great way to sell more subscriptions to NSO. Nintendo knows what it's doing.

I'm torn on this. Getting old forgotten games from the GameCube era available on Switch 2 is great, but this probably means the dual WiiU Zelda remasters will always be locked to that console. And the great games they're built on will be locked behind a subscription paywall for the forseeable future..

I really wanted a Luigis Mansion 1 remaster on my shelf to complete the set on modern Nintendo-consoles. Oh well. This is still a good thing overall.

The best part of this announcement was the new GCN controllers. I've been wanting new first party GCN controllers for the entire 8 years of Switch 1.

This actually pissed me off, because it only pretty much guarantees that we will not be getting a digital HD edition of Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Mario Galaxy 2, the original Luigi's Mansion, etc.--instead, we have to settle with these damn Nintendo Switch Online versions, which will only last for as long as your subscription does, and as long as Nintendo decides to keep them up. But it's also a double-edged sword, because on the other hand there's no way in hell Nintendo would release something like F-Zero GX and Soulcalibur II today, so in the case of those two games... NSO is better than nothing.

Overall, disappointing.

That said, I never owned a GameCube so I'm happy that I'll be able to play those games with this. Hopefully there's no price increase to NSO+EP as GC titles are just the edition to make that tier actually worth the price imo.

IF Skies of Arcadia appears, I'll take this seriously. Until then, I've no interest in these titles since they've mostly been re-released/made/mastered since. Except the FE title, that's a big win for people since the resale value is nuts on that.

They said the games will run at higher frame rate and resolution, thats basically WWHD minus the QoL improvements that maybe just did make sense on the WiiU gamepad, ill take it!

I almost cried when I saw my little guy Chibi-Robo on screen! 😭 Not to mention online F-Zero GX, both (very rare/expensive) Pokemon games, Soulcalibur, and Fire Emblem! I'm awestruck. I don't care that it's part of a subscription, Chibi still got recognized 🥹

Would've loved a Wind Waker HD port but this is cool, and nice that I won't have to pay $60 for the privilege of repurchasing Wind Waker for the third time, heh.

The most enticing proposition for NSO+E yet... if not for the fact that I can readily play these games without renting them and with the original controller(s).

I would have been all over these had they been released as a series of physical compilations, but as it stands, NSO still doesn't provide anything to justify the extra expense.

And this will be the thing that gets me to upgrade my NSO subscription. Gamecube era was when I really started getting into gaming

honestly im hoping skies of arcadia ends up getting the remaster treatment, basically having the gamecube content with the dreamcast audio quality in HD.

Both because it would also get the game out to more people since it would likely be multiplat alongside the advantage of being able to keep the game.

3 games though? I know GameCube games are pretty meaty and racing games are one of the most replayable genres out there but still…

@DanElectrode Wind Waker HD have several problems vs the original and is not just a HD version.
They added some new features too i think and it also supports inventory on touch screen.

I'm glad i bought both of these HD Zelda's physical on Wii U on release.

People should be glad F-Zero GX lives again at all, and hopefully it'll have the content from AX. Wind Waker is good to see again even with just the OG.

Now we can finally have the full Luigi's Mansion trilogy on a Switch system! I can see 1 being saved for October.

A bunch of those games have GBA linking, I wonder if that will be addressed. Fire Emblem just gets you some artwork, but it would be nice if they unlock those features from the start.

I'm one of those people that don't like WWHD's white-ish visuals. So having access to the original look in HD is great. It's just a shame that you can't buy the games.

Chibi-robo is one of those troublesome titles, the Japan-exclusive Wii port has widescreen, and is in any case the definitive version, so now we have a 4:3 HD version? Ughh.

That means we're not getting purchasable versions of Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Soul Calibur HD with Link, Heihachi, and Spawn, F-Zero GX HD Remastered, and Tales of Symphonia HD 60fps physical edition. All these good versions will never come to be own anymore. The ones we could buy are waterdown versions and the ones we want are either rental or hard to find versions.

Hope that GC exclusives Star Wars Rogue Leader/ Rebel Strike games can finally be released to far wider audiences!

Wow! The GameCube library is great. I have a special fondness for that era because that’s when I was at a point in my life where I could make a little money at my part time job and run out and buy some games with it. That was such a fun time for me and my first ever midnight launch was for a GameCube. Can’t wait to race online with friends on Fzero, throw a buddy into the abyss with link on soul caliber, and wind waker to play with my daughter for her first time.

This is how Nintendo will FINALLY make me cave for the NSO expansion pack. I don't need any of the launch games (I love The Wind Waker but have the arguably superior Wii U version), but this means I'll be able to access games I've always wanted to try, such as Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (without selling a kidney and lung), and more!

@Mgalens Agreed. From one underperforming console to another. Tough gig for those particular games - at least Sonic Adventure games ended up on other platforms.

@HammerGalladeBro I can only imagine any such feature would be disabled for those games, just as they were for the mainline GB games on 3DS VC.
I don't know if TPC has any plans for online interaction/trading (I know that is probably asking a lot out of Nintendo for NSO) but I can imagine they still would be against abusable. Did the N64 Stadiums allow it?

@whmchrish Luigi's Mansion 1 got a remaster on the 3DS but I guess since it was so late in its lifespan, people might've missed it or forgotten.

@Uncle_Franklin Crazy Taxi is famous for licensed music? I believe it was enough that Games Done Quick apparently banned that game for many years until they could arrange a live performance to avoid copyright issues.
I imagine that is something that could be more common as this era of games approaches retro gaming service.

@KingMike The Stadiums did allow save states. That's how I beat Round 1 and got stuck in the middle of Round 2 for both games.

Then again, the Stadiums aren't RPGs like Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness. However, considering that they can only trade with Gen III games (which aren't available on NSO as of today), I don't see why they would restrict it.

Even back in the day to pass a Pokémon from Colosseum to XD or vice-versa, they had to go through a GBA version. My only guess of why it would be restricted is if they implement Pokémon HOME/Champions compatibility for these re-releases.

but the mobile port of the game has the music intact,
so this explanation doesn't make any sense to me.

Those first 3 games getting released are well over 100hrs of gameplay combined!!!!

@KBuckley27 In Nintendo’s slight defence, GameCube games are up to a GB each and the apps are a wrapper to house every game for that console. So you’re looking at a far heftier download than previous consoles if it launches with a large library.

All I can say is about time! Frankly, digital GameCube games should have been available way back in the VC days. This is long overdue, but better late than never, I guess.

we all wanted the physical release of the remakes or remasters of these games.... not a rental service which can be ok for cheap games nobody would want to buy

@KingMike Indeed it did. In 2018 or so was it? I have both that and the GameCube Original - but seeing as Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 are on the OG Switch, I'd have liked a HD remaster of the first one as well.

The 3DS has a lot of great games, but I'm much more inclined to play on the big screen these days - and when I'm out and about I don't want to bring 2 different handhelds.

Just give us the Rogue Squadron games. Everything else is a side salad.

@Kazman2007 Other than no Swift Sail, I'd hardly say that it's going backwards. Wind Waker running emulated and rendered at 1080p looks just as beautiful as the Wii U remaster. Maybe even more so if you're like me and prefer the original lighting system.

Hopefully the pro controller works well. The GC controller will probably be hard to come by.

Each game is 4:3? Lazy, Nintendo. Dolphin can run most or all of these in non-stretched 16:9. And at least one of these, F-Zero GX, has supported widescreen since day 1.

@Atariboy GX will still have widescreen. All the N64 games that had widescreen allow you to switch. Nintendo just showed it in 4:3 because it's the default, similar to how they show the Game Boy games in barf green.

I've read that the GameCube Controller adaptor that came for Smash Bros. for Wii U and Smash Ultimate is compatible, so could I just play an actual GCN controller on NSO by plugging that in one of Switch 2's USB ports? Hmmm...

I'm happy for everybody who was hoping and waiting for GameCube games at last. I wasn't expecting them to give a nod to F-Zero GX, but welcome back old friend. I can't wait to build my custom car again.

I am a little less loud as I own all these games but I am quite excited to have more games on one system. I play less classic games because I don’t feel like looking for them but a quick boot up from NSO means FE is getting replayed!!!

Love this extra Game Cube feature but to be honest I thought Nintendo would release these as individual remastered games to make money.

I bet the Game Cube controller will be bloody difficult to get hold of for ages.

So now we know why Super Mario 3D All-Stars was a limited-time release. This tells me that we will likely get other platforms like Wii added to NSO eventually, with Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. That might still be several years off, though.

While I'm extremely happy to finally be getting GameCube NSO, I'm a bit disappointed that:

1. This evidently means we're not getting the definitive versions of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess with wide-screen support, improved textures, and quality-of-life improvements like the Swift Sail and improved Triforce shard quest. I'm curious if the Tingle Tuner will function somehow?

2. No mention of Mario Kart: Double Dash or Super Smash Bros. Melee. How do you NOT launch GameCube NSO with MELE??? That would have been so hype. Melee with online and being able to take it on the go would have sold Switch 2 units all by itself. But we still don't even have Smash Bros. 64 and it's really frustrating. What's the deal, Nintendo??

I'm happy I'll finally get to experience Chibi-Robo, but I think it could have looked gorgeous with a complete ground-up remake. Same for Luigi's Mansion--looking forward to playing it again, but a remake in 4k with raytracing and the works, as well as the 3DS versions added achievement system, improved second quest, and co-op would have been so good.

Hopefully we see more obscure stuff come to the service in the future. I'd love to replay Wario World after all these years. Maybe eventually we'll get the OG Thousand-Year Door, which I honestly think I prefer over the remake due to the script differences. I never played Star Fox Adventures, but as someone who doesn't like the on-rails arcade-style gameplay, I think a more on-foot Zelda style of adventure will really appeal to me.

I still have my bongos and a dance pad, so if they ever port Donkey Kong Jungle Beat or DDR: Mario Mix, I'll be able to play them with my GameCube controller adapter, which is hilarious.

Maybe we can get third-party games like Viewtiful Joe, Pac-Man World 3 (still hoping 2 gets a remake instead), and more. Or, if those companies want to release those games separately on the eShop, that's fine too.

It's too bad my Nyxi Wizard controller pushes buttons on its own without my inputs. What is that--button drift?

I'd rather have a port of Wii U's Wind Waker HD than an emulation of the original game, but it's a heck of a lot better than no Wind Waker on Switch 2 at all.

I think nothing is still better than NSO. Another monthly bill just to be spoon fed laggy emulated games that play(in terms of responsiveness) nowhere near as good as the real thing. lol

I'd rather just use an actual GameCube, OEM Wired GCN Controller, and software using an HDMI connection to a QD-OLED TV or big CRT. That way you're getting either zero lag or just 10ms from your OLED TV.

As is, that GCN NSO controller will have 1 frame of lag if it's anything like the current NSO controllers, the emulated games will have 1 frame of lag IF you're lucky and then you have to deal with the lag(10ms) coming from your OLED TV. that's a lot of lag man. lol I can't just sit here and hop aboard the zany hype train and go into hyperbolic furber-hype mode like this is the greatest things since sliced cheesy bread.

Although, the resolution and supposed frame rate bumps, if true, will be pretty awesome and you can play them in handheld mode for those that love playing on the go. So there's that. Either way, I'd much rather buy these games, Virtual Console style, instead of forking over monthly payments just to play slow-drip releases. I hate that practice.

I really hope the Viewtiful Joe games come to the service. And Eternal Darkness. And Killer 7.

I can't wait for Kirby Air Ride to get added, playing that game with online multiplayer will be so AWESOME!!

@Lizuka I am actually glad WW HD is not on Switch yet. This still makes my Modded Wii U still amazing. I mean, I no longer have to purchase NES-Wii U games ever again. Along side having a Modded 3DS, therefore any games before Switch generation...in the palm of my hand.

All GameCube games are playable on Steamdeck without a subscription and have been for many years. Also on most Android phones. They also play Wii, Wii U and Switch btw.
